With the Metro card I got down the stairs of the 103rd street station and boarded the downtown train for Brooklyn.
Now the subway network has been around for more than 100 yrs covering the entire city except Staten Island and has over 425 stations.
Metro card gave me the flexibility to travel in any train in any direction and alight wherever I felt like exploring. Out of the 425 stations, 280 are underground with the most underground stations in the Brooklyn borough. All the stations that I passed through had ceramic tiles on the walls and the station name was designed uniformly. The subway runs 24 hrs and waiting for a train in a deserted subway at night is an experience not for the faint hearted. I saw a lot of homeless riding the subway at such times and its advisable to use common sense and not venture out too far.
I will try to take you through the 14hrs I spent exploring NYC, the touristy spots, busy streets, markets, the lovely parks and the people.
